The Wisconsin Veterans Home at King, a skilled nursing facility set on 320 tree-lined acres located off Hwy 10 between Stevens Point and Appleton, currently has Licensed Practical Nurse openings. The Veterans Home is a long-term-care facility that specializes in providing comfort, support and professional medical services to elderly or disabled veterans and their spouses.

Working directly with members and families, the position is responsible for providing routine direct and indirect patient care for geriatric and/or disabled members. With specific direction, the incumbent assists professional-level healthcare providers in complex situations. The work is characterized by the technical knowledge of patient care, observation, treatments and medications. The incumbent is expected to meet specific technical nursing requirements and to make critical observations of members.

Employment in this position is contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical and tuberculosis (TB) test.

A minimally-qualified applicant must be licensed as a Practical Nurse in the State of Wisconsin, recently graduated or graduating within the next 30 days from a Practical Nurse program, be available to work varying hours and/or overtime shifts as required, and have the ability to work in conditions of position (e.g., use safety equipment and wear protective clothing; lift, carry, push, pull and reach, including pushing medication carts; work standing, sitting, kneeling or in stooping positions; and stand and/or walk, up to 75% of an 8-hour day).
A well-qualified applicant will have experience in patient care procedures, nursing procedures, team support strategies, communication and electronic technology.

Type of Employment: Full Time (40 hrs/week) Part Time (less than 40 hrs/week) Evening 2nd Shift (3pm to 11pm or similar hours)
Salary: Starting wage is between $19.44 and $21.20 per hour, plus additional compensation earned for weekends, nights, holidays, and overtime, as well as an excellent benefits package. This position is in pay schedule and range 06-05. For current or eligible former State employees, pay on appointment will be set in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Wisconsin Compensation Plan. A twelve-month probationary period is required.
Special Qualifications: Licensure or eligibility for licensure as a licensed practical nurse in Wisconsin.
