To support our continued growth, TecStar Mfg Company is seeking a Lead Operator for its plastics manufacturing facility. This position is a group leader that is responsible for up to 20 press operators in regards to training, scheduling, scrap monitoring, production reporting, and supporting production needs.
Essential Tasks/Duties and Responsibilities:
* Assign Operator’s to the presses that need to run on a given shift
* If necessary, attend shift staffing meeting to define priorities and acquire the proper staffing
* Verify attendance of production personnel
* Ensure that operators are at the press at the appropriate time and report any issues to shift supervisor.
* Ensure that operators are trained and capable of performing the assigned tasks and concur with shift supervisor.
* Perform an assessment of the cell’s current conditions with the previous and next shift’s Assistants
* Identify the following for each press at the start and end of the shift:
* Status of the current Production Order (what are the Job’s needs going forward)
* Check box counts and related production order information to confirm job status
* Significant Events – what happened, how was it resolved, and how was it verified
* At a minimum, a Significant Event is defined as one of the following:
* A tool being idle for more than 4 hours
* A tool being pulled for Preventative Maintenance (PM)
* A tool being pulled for repair
* Process adjustments
* Housekeeping status of each press
* Quality issues with the previous shift’s product and/or processes
* Perform follow-up activities with Technicians and Quality personnel to verify that the situation was effectively resolved and that associated product was contained and/or dispositioned
* General Housekeeping status and maintenance for the entire cell and ensure that operators communicate with the operators on the next shift.
* Review all of the previous shift’s entries in the Communication Log and/or Maxis system
* Participate in the training of production personnel
* In conjunction with the Shift Supervisor, evaluate the talent level and performance of production personnel
* Follow-up with the Shift Supervisor on all production personnel issues
* Coordinate the reallocation of excess Operator’s through the Shift Supervisor
* Identify and execute the break schedule for a given cell or assigned area
* If necessary, participate in break related activities
* Participate in the start-up and shut-down of each production order
* Verify that the operators have everything needed to perform their job
* Verify that Quality personnel have reviewed and approved the product and process
* Verify that the requirements of the production order have been completed and that last-shot retains have been collected.
* Work with Material Control Specialists on replenishing materials for on-going production requirements
* Maxis reporting
* Enter production related information into the Maxis system
* Enter good, scrap, and QAHOLD data
* Maintain staffing assignment
* Open and close production orders
* Maintain a safe work environment
* Ensure that operators are utilizing the safety related apparatus required for each production job
* Safety glasses, ear plugs, etc.
* Ensure that the Operators are not endangering themselves or others with their actions
* Inform the Shift Supervisor of all safety related issues
* Maxis reporting
* Enter end of shift production related information into the Maxis system
* Enter good, scrap, and QAHOLD data
Required Experience:
Candidates must have 2-5 years of manufacturing experience (preferably in injection molding), must be hands on, self motivated, and be experienced in leading and training. Must have good communication skills (Bilingual in Spanish a plus), have good time management skills, and be a quick learner.
